Our Story
From Afghanistan to Germany to Bloomington
Hamid's life in food started long before the truck. Born in Afghanistan, he lived in Pakistan and India before spending many years in Germany, where he first worked in restaurants as a high school dishwasher and later built a career in the restaurant business.
In Berlin, Hamid came to know döner as everyday street food: meat turning on a vertical spit, shaved fresh, packed with vegetables, and served quickly to people from every walk of life. That experience shaped the Bloomington truck more than any trend or template.
After moving to the United States, Hamid eventually made Bloomington home. The city felt familiar: smaller, personal, surrounded by nature, and full of students, families, travelers, and international neighbors. The truck became a place where all of those people could meet at the same window.
Today, Hamid serves his own German-style döner with slow roasted meat and a customizable mix of fresh vegetables, pickled red cabbage, feta, house-made tzatziki, and chili sauce for customers who want the heat. Some customers come for the food. Others stop just to say hello. Most leave with both a conversation and a döner.
Hamid is usually on Kirkwood Ave, but not always. The best way to find the truck is to check the truck tracker, which is updated after the truck parks for the day.
